We watched Wales This Week properly the other day. Carole and myself are not best pleased! Wales this Week's Production Team painted a depressing and awful picture of ex-pat life in Spain. The lady who interviewed us was really nice, however it looks like the editor has looked for only the most negative comments made rather than a balanced view. As far as we are concerned we were set-up.
We asked the interviewer not to mention that we are for sale because a lot of friends do not know this and we did not want to come across negative in any way. I even took down the for sale sign before they began filming the bar. We had no idea they were going to mention it.
We had no idea the programme was called "Trouble in Paradise". We were under the impression that it was simply a Welsh TV programme looking for Welsh people who have emmigrated to Spain and the stories they have to say about it. We had absolutely no idea that it was based on bad experiences or financial problems or how hard things are or anything along those lines because WE WERE NOT TOLD.
We think that the programme depicts a gloomy scenario of ex pats living in the costa and that the programme could even discourage people coming here for holidays. That is the LAST thing we we wanted to be part of. If we were told in advance the concept of the programme, that it was about problems and misery and lost dreams so forth then we would have had no part in it and we would not have allowed ourselves to be interviewed.
We are happy in Spain and we intend on staying, with or without a bar, the reason we are up for sale is because we feel that we want to try something new and spend more quality time with our children.
Kevin and Carole!
